Purnayou has taken both short term and long term initiatives for the welfare of the elderly, taking into account the socio-economic aspects of the country. The organisation has already started the “Pandemic Help Project” to financially support the funeral arrangements of those underprivileged elderly who have lost their lives to Covid-19. It has been also distributing food, medicines and mobility instruments (such as wheelchairs, walking sticks and clothes) to the poorer senior citizens.
Short Term Projects:
1. Food and winter clothing distribution to the poorer elderly.
2. Help for the poorer seniors during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Long Term Projects:
Multigenerational Living Project – While multigenerational living is a common practice in South Asia and the African continent, nuclear families are becoming more popular among the urban dwellers in Bangladesh. This could be happening due to work priorities, education priorities and/or the tendency of prioritising the needs and welfare of one’s own family. Another factor could be people emigrating abroad, moving away from their families. As a result, the older generation is facing loneliness along with other social and financial distress. This project aims to alleviate loneliness among the elderly, provide safe shelter, medical treatment, entertainment and other helpful facilities.
